Tufan Erhürman, leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, has predicted a potentially "hot summer" in the context of the Cyprus issue, emphasizing the significance of the upcoming visit by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's personal envoy, Maria Angela Olguin, scheduled for June 8. Erhürman described this visit as a possible milestone, signaling heightened diplomatic activity in the coming months.
Speaking in a television interview, Erhürman highlighted continued international interest from Antonio Guterres while considering an immediate new plan unlikely. He reiterated the Turkish Cypriot community's commitment to a resolution and stressed the importance of gradual progress. Additionally, Erhürman commented on the Turkish-speaking States Organization and rejected criticisms about the property commission, affirming its role in maintaining adherence to international law.
Regarding issues faced by residents from the occupied areas with Turkey, Erhürman announced that the entry bans for 16 individuals have been lifted, and ongoing dialogue is taking place. He also expressed disappointment over misconceptions about the observer status with the Turkish-speaking States Organization leading to automatic recognition.
