🏗️ Nicosia launches €5.4 million Trikoupis street renovation amid ongoing road closures

Nicosia has inaugurated the €5.4 million project to remodel the Trikoupis street area into a creative business neighbourhood aimed at revitalising the historic city centre. Funded by the Thalia 2021-2027 EU programme, the project includes upgraded roads, pavements, smart city features, and restoration of 53 building facades, enhancing both infrastructure and architectural heritage.

However, access to the area remains challenging due to ongoing works at the Oxi roundabout, which will be closed until December, along with nearby carparks in the Venetian moat. Residents and shop owners have expressed concerns over the inconvenience caused by these closures, which also affect Thermopyles street and parts of Constantine Paleologos avenue.

Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos emphasized the project’s long-term benefits, describing it as part of a broader plan to create a greener, more sustainable, and inclusive city. The initiative aims to attract new professionals and gradually transform the historic centre into a dynamic academic and creative hub. Traffic disruptions will be managed through diversions during the construction periods.
