🌍 Cyprus and Kazakhstan Strengthen Economic Ties with Business Forum in Astana
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides highlighted the strategic importance of Kazakhstan as a partner in Central Asia during the first Cyprus-Kazakhstan Business Forum held in Astana. Both countries emphasized opportunities for expanding trade, investment, and connectivity, leveraging Kazakhstan's growing role in bridging Europe and Asia and Cyprus's stable status within the EU. Christodoulides promoted Cyprus as an attractive business base, citing strong economic growth, sound public finances, and favorable tax policies.
Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov confirmed mutual interest in enhancing economic cooperation, pointing to Kazakhstan's 6.5% GDP growth in 2025 and increased foreign direct investment. Bektenov underscored Kazakhstan's role in Eurasian freight transport and noted new direct flights connecting Kazakhstan and Cyprus, facilitating business and logistics links.
Both leaders identified key sectors for collaboration, including shipping, fintech, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and digital technologies. Kazakhstan aims to become a digital and AI-based economy, while Cyprus offers a gateway to Europe, the eastern Mediterranean, and beyond. The forum marks a milestone in bilateral relations amid Cyprus’s EU Council presidency focusing on connectivity and international partnerships.
