💊 Gesy Celebrates Seven Years with Over 1 Million Beneficiaries and New Healthcare Services
Gesy, Cyprus' national health scheme, celebrated its seventh anniversary, marking significant milestones and service improvements. The system now officially covers over 1 million beneficiaries, with notable new features including a reimbursement procedure for cross-border healthcare and the addition of physiotherapy to its coverage.
During the latest period from June 2025 to May 2026, 839,955 people visited personal doctors, while 676,458 saw specialists. Laboratory tests and diagnostic services were also widely used, with over half a million and 335,380 visits respectively. The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) intensified audits on compensation claims, recovering €19 million from problematic cases.
An actuarial study by the International Labour Organisation projects Gesy’s financial sustainability until at least 2033, extending previous estimates. Officials describe the system as maturing and stabilizing, with ongoing developments such as patient registries and new clinical guidelines enhancing healthcare delivery.
