AKEL's Central Committee has unanimously endorsed party Secretary-General Stefanos Stefanou as its candidate for president of the House of Representatives. The announcement came on Thursday, marking a significant step in the selection process. Stefanou's candidacy already enjoys support from two parliamentary parties, AKEL and Alma.

The committee has also directed its Political Bureau to continue engaging with other parties to present Stefanou's nomination and seek broader backing. This ongoing dialogue aims to build a wider coalition in support of Stefanou's bid for the leadership position in the House.
