More than 70 guests at a wedding reception in Limassol last weekend experienced symptoms of food poisoning, with 18 people, including children, hospitalized. Among those affected were 39 guests from Limassol and about 35 from Paphos, with 15 and three hospitalized respectively. The Ministry of Health’s Health Services launched an immediate investigation following the incident.

Authorities are conducting thorough analyses of food and water samples from the venue while interviewing those affected to determine the cause of the outbreak. The suspected premises have been temporarily closed as part of the ongoing probe. Health Services head Irodotos Irodotou confirmed that investigations began promptly after notification and that the couple hosting the wedding reported that around 50 guests showed symptoms from the start.

In addition, health officials are investigating a second potential food poisoning incident at a different venue and are exploring whether the two cases are connected.
