🌍 Cyprus Praised for Advancing Ukraine's EU Accession Talks as Negotiations May Start Soon

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed gratitude to Cyprus for its leadership during its EU Council presidency in pushing forward Ukraine’s European Union accession process. With Cyprus holding the rotating presidency, the EU is increasingly likely to approve the start of accession negotiations with Ukraine this month.

A key breakthrough was Hungary’s decision to lift its veto after reaching an agreement with Ukraine to enhance the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia. Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar confirmed that commitments will be integrated into Ukraine’s legal framework and EU action plans, paving the way for Hungary's support in opening negotiations.

Cyprus’ European Affairs Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna remained cautiously optimistic about securing unanimous EU backing by the June 16 General Affairs Council in Brussels. The initial negotiation phase, covering judicial and institutional reforms, is expected to open soon, marking an important step in Ukraine's path to EU membership.
