German Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan was forced to abort her visit to Lebanon and diverted to Larnaca airport in Cyprus on Monday due to escalating Israeli military actions targeting Beirut. The decision came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered attacks on southern suburbs of Beirut following alleged violations by Hezbollah.

Radovan had been traveling with Norwegian counterpart Asmund Grover Aukrust when their plane turned around shortly before reaching Lebanon. Her ministry cited rapidly deteriorating security conditions as the reason for the diversion. While Israel initially launched attacks on so-called "terrorist targets," planned strikes were later called off following direct discussions between US President Donald Trump and Netanyahu.

Cyprus has played an active role in stabilizing Lebanon and fostering EU-Lebanon relations, with Cypriot officials praising Lebanon's efforts to maintain peace and stability. The German minister emphasized ongoing humanitarian support alongside calls for a reliable ceasefire to enable displaced people to return home and ensure Lebanon's long-term recovery.
