🌦️ Cyprus experiences unprecedented May rainfall at 238% of average, with Paphos Airport seeing 394% increase
Cyprus recorded exceptionally high rainfall in May, with precipitation levels reaching 238% of the monthly average across government-controlled areas, according to the Department of Meteorology. Every measuring station on the island reported rainfall exceeding their normal May levels, with some areas experiencing nearly four times their typical amount.
Paphos Airport recorded the most significant increase in rainfall, at 394% of its usual May total. Other notable increases were at Polis (375%), Stavros tis Psokas (371%), and Limassol New Port (360%). In absolute terms, Prodromos experienced the highest rainfall with 127.2mm, followed by Saïtta and Stavros tis Psokas with 108mm and 100.8mm respectively. Larnaca Airport recorded the lowest rainfall at 13.6mm, which still represented 143% of its average for the month.
Cumulatively, since October 1, average rainfall across the government-controlled regions has reached 117% of normal, with total precipitation measuring 569.4mm. All stations have noted seasonal rainfall levels surpassing 100% of their averages, highlighting a wetter-than-usual period across Cyprus.
