🏗️ €9.2 Million Project to Replace Water Pipes in Limassol's City Centre

The Limassol district government has signed a €9.2 million contract to replace the water pipes in the city's old centre, covering an area of around 2.6 square kilometres and serving approximately 40,000 residents. The project aims to upgrade, modernise, and strengthen the city's water infrastructure, with work starting next month and expected to be completed by July 2028.

District governor Yiannis Tsouloftas emphasized that the outdated water network will be replaced with a modern system constructed from advanced materials, designed to reduce damages and water losses. This upgrade is anticipated to save resources, lower operational costs, and improve service quality, including ensuring better drinking water—addressing concerns raised during a recent EU foreign ministers summit in Limassol.

Limassol mayor Yiannis Armeftis acknowledged that while the extensive works might cause short-term inconvenience, the project lays a crucial foundation for the city's future. Funding for this initiative was secured through the European Union's cohesion fund.
