🌦️ Cyprus dam water levels nearly double from last year, reaching 42.4% capacity

Water levels in Cypriot dams have risen significantly, standing at 42.4 per cent capacity, nearly doubling from 21.6 per cent at the same time last year, according to the Water Development Department. The Nicosia reservoirs recorded the highest storage levels at 99.6 per cent, a stark increase from 16 per cent last year.

Other districts also saw substantial increases, with Paphos at 45.9 per cent compared to 21.3 per cent, Polis Chrysochou at 54.2 per cent versus 23.6 per cent, and the Southern Conveyor region at 38.4 per cent, up from 21.5 per cent. This surge marks the highest inflow in the past four years, with overall storage reaching 110.781 million cubic metres.

The rise in water levels correlates with a notable increase in rainfall, reaching 238 per cent of the average for May. The highest rainfall was recorded at Paphos Airport, where precipitation hit 394 per cent of the monthly average, contributing significantly to the improved reservoir capacities.
