📰 Edek party leader signals possible withdrawal from government amid internal challenges
Edek party leader Nikos Anastasiou announced that the possibility of withdrawing from the government remains alive, with a final decision expected at the party's congress later this year unless urgent developments arise. He cited insufficient political and organisational support following recent parliamentary elections as a key factor behind the party's consideration to leave.
Anastasiou also addressed Edek's historic failure to secure parliamentary representation for the first time, attributing the loss to internal weaknesses, divisions, and alleged sabotage by senior members. Calling for a period of reassessment and restructuring, he confirmed that his leadership position will be reviewed by the central committee next week.
Looking ahead, Anastasiou indicated that Edek may pursue closer cooperation with the Ecologists and Dipa, but firmly ruled out any alliance with Diko, criticizing their behaviour during the election period. He left open the question of his resignation, stating that his future will be deliberated internally.
