🏠 Interior Minister defends business-driven housing approach, urges swift parliament approval on apartment management bill

Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou emphasized the government's pro-business stance on housing and development, stating the private sector is better equipped to deliver projects quickly and efficiently. Speaking at a forum with young business leaders in land development and construction, Ioannou highlighted entrepreneurship as a key driver of economic growth, employment, and GDP contribution.

Addressing the delayed bill on shared buildings, the minister noted that the Interior Ministry completed its work after extensive consultations, with the legislation now awaiting parliamentary approval. The bill aims to modernize apartment management through common funds and measures against unpaid shared expenses, aligning Cyprus with European standards.

Ioannou also challenged proposals for large-scale government housing projects due to funding concerns, contrasting them with the government's current EU-backed plan for 500 apartments. He dismissed criticism that housing incentives primarily benefit developers, affirming the scheme supports builders of varying sizes on plots over 800 square meters. The minister reiterated confidence in the private sector’s ability to deliver housing projects more cost-effectively than the government.
