🌍 UN Envoy Olgin to Discuss Cyprus Talks and Confidence-Building Measures During Upcoming Visit

Maria Angela Olgin, the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Cyprus, is set to arrive on the island in eight days to engage in critical discussions on the Cyprus issue. Her meetings will focus on the Guterres framework and the convergences achieved so far, aiming to assess the possibility of an informal 5+1 meeting in July.

Olgin is expected to hold separate talks with the President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman. While no joint trilateral meeting has been confirmed, her agenda will also review the progress of Confidence-Building Measures agreed to date, with no significant advancement reported on opening new crossings.

Additionally, Olgin may meet with civil society organizations, continuing her practice from previous visits. Meanwhile, President Christodoulides has expressed optimism about a window of opportunity before the end of the UN Secretary-General’s term, while Erhurman insists that progress on the island is necessary before a foreign informal summit can take place, reaffirming his four-point methodology proposal.
