A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at Kato Vouno in the Pera Orinis community, Nicosia district, and was brought under control by 6:15pm, the Department of Forests reported. The fire started at 5:45pm on May 30, 2026, and early detection combined with the swift response of firefighting crews helped contain it rapidly. Four decares of low wild vegetation were burned in the incident.

A total of six Department of Forests personnel with two fire engines, along with three Fire Service staff and one fire engine, participated in extinguishing the fire. Authorities have begun investigating the cause of the blaze to determine how it started.
