Cyprus police arrested a 29-year-old man in a Famagusta village on Friday after he attacked officers attempting to detain him. The police arrived around 5:30 p.m. to execute an outstanding arrest warrant related to his failure to appear in court. They found the man outside his home armed with a knife and a box cutter.

When approached, the man refused to cooperate and assaulted the officers, scratching them mainly on their arms. Despite his resistance, the officers managed to subdue and arrest him for the new offenses and the existing warrant. The injured officers received treatment at Famagusta General Hospital and were discharged.

The investigation is ongoing, led by the Xylofagou Police Station.
