💰 Finance Minister Keravnos Warns Against EU Fragmentation Amid E6 Move to Loosen Financial Regulations
Cyprus Finance Minister Makis Keravnos has voiced concerns about the potential fragmentation of the European Union ahead of a critical meeting involving six major EU nations. These nations, known as the E6 — France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain, intend to discuss loosening financial regulations to better compete with the US financial sector. The E6 meeting is scheduled for Thursday in Berlin. Keravnos emphasized the need for unity within the EU, warning that any move toward a "two-speed" Europe, which allows certain countries to integrate more deeply while others remain on the periphery, would be a "step backward." He stressed the importance of including all member states in plans to bolster Europe's financial and defense capabilities. Despite this, there have been increasing discussions among the E6 nations about advancing toward a 'capital markets union' to facilitate easier investment flows across Europe.
