🏠 Larnaca Government Orders Evacuation of Apartment Block, Inspects Dozens More as Safety Precautions Escalate
Authorities in Larnaca, under the direction of the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (DLGO), have mandated the evacuation of an apartment block in Chrysopolitissa affecting 17 apartments and two shops. This move comes as part of a larger initiative to inspect and address safety concerns in 23 occupied buildings deemed dangerous, with over 150 buildings currently under scrutiny. Residents lacking alternative accommodations will be temporarily lodged in hotels.
DLGO's ongoing safety measures also involve sealing 40 unoccupied buildings and implementing precautions in the Agii Anargyroi and Agios Ioannis areas. Meanwhile, two building collapses reported recently have highlighted the urgency of these safety inspections. Officials emphasize the necessity for property owners to recognize their responsibilities and for legislative changes to enhance enforcement capabilities regarding building safety.
