🌍 UN Briefs Diplomatic Community on Cyprus Peace Efforts and Technical Committees Work
The UN Good Offices Mission updated the diplomatic community in Cyprus on the progress of the island's 13 Technical Committees and the overall UN involvement in the peace process today. Sergiy Illarionov, Head of the UN Good Offices Mission, along with UN Facilitators, discussed the committees' efforts in addressing crime, environmental protection, cultural heritage, and humanitarian cooperation. These committees, comprising Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot representatives, focus on practical issues impacting daily life on the island.
The briefing further highlighted the UN's role in fostering trust and continued dialogue between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. The Secretary-General's recent report reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining contact and seeking a peaceful resolution, amidst the longest lull in active negotiations in the history of the Cyprus peace process.
