🌦️ Larnaca Event Trains Public on Animal Rescue During Climate Emergencies
On Saturday, May 23, the Larnaca-Famagusta Development Company (ANETEL) collaborated with Cyprus Civil Defence to organize a training session on rescuing pets, birds, and wildlife during climate crises. The training was a part of the ACT4ALL project and took place at the Larnaca Civil Defence facilities. It aimed to prepare the public, animal welfare groups, and volunteers for increasingly frequent climate emergencies such as wildfires, heatwaves, and floods. Sonia Filippou and veterinarian Rhea Kirpi instructed participants on handling dogs and cats during natural disasters, demonstrating critical first aid techniques like CPR and treating heatstroke. Another session by veterinarian Konstantinos Antoniou focused on the challenges facing birds and wildlife, highlighting the urgent need for public awareness and preparedness in these areas. The ACT4ALL project plans to continue its efforts with further training for volunteers interested in enhancing their ability to care for animals during emergencies.
