📰 Cyprus to Launch CY-Alert Public Warning System on June 2

Cyprus is set to launch a new public early-warning system, CY-Alert, on June 2 to enhance safety during emergencies. Announced by Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou and Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodimos Damianou, the system will send real-time alerts to mobile phones regarding threats to life, safety, or public order. This innovative alert system does not require an internet connection, an installed app, or specificity regarding the mobile provider or SIM card’s country of origin. Over the next three weeks, Cypriots can expect test alerts that will be broadcast in both Greek and English, featuring a distinctive sound, strong vibration, and clear messaging marked as drills. To ensure their devices can receive these alerts, users need to update to the latest version of Android or iOS software. Each alert will describe the specific hazard and provide instructions for protection or evacuation as required.
