🎉 President Christodoulides Highlights Theatre's Role in Cyprus' Culture at Thoc Awards

President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized the critical role of theatre in shaping Cyprus' cultural identity during the Thoc Theatre Awards ceremony in Nicosia on Tuesday. Recognizing theatre as a vital cultural pillar, he described it as a source of support and hope amid global geopolitical tensions. The ceremony celebrated individual artists and the collective impact of theatre on the nation's cultural awareness.

Christodoulides cited the Cyprus presidency of the Council of the European Union as an opportunity to showcase the importance of culture and creativity in strengthening democracies and Europe's diversity. He highlighted a strategic cultural roadmap agreed upon by all 27 EU member states, focusing culture at the core of the EU's identity and economy.

The president also mentioned significant government support for theatre, with state-backed funding and additional programs to aid cultural creators in training and international participation. This initiative supports Cyprus' cultural heritage while fostering cultural diplomacy and enhancing the visibility of Cypriot theatre abroad, particularly in Greece through annual productions at the National Theatre in Athens.
