A recent case involves a 52-year-old Nicosia resident who was deceived during a video call on a social media app. The caller, who falsely introduced themselves as a member of the Migration Department, displayed a counterfeit police ID and persuaded the victim to disclose personal and banking information, resulting in substantial financial losses. Authorities clarify that police would never solicit such sensitive information through informal channels like social media.
