Cyprus recorded an almost 16% increase in prices for fuels and lubricants used in personal transport in April compared with the same month last year, Eurostat data show. On a monthly basis the island saw diesel prices jump 18% between March and April, while gasoline rose nearly 9%. Across the European Union, prices for fuels and lubricants climbed 20.8% in April.

Eurostat noted the rise followed a downward trend in prices that had persisted until February 2026 across the EU average and in most member states. For gasoline specifically, 23 EU countries reported month-on-month increases between March and April 2026, with changes ranging from a 12.9% rise in Slovenia to a 1.3% rise in Ireland; Poland was the only member state to record a decrease, with gasoline prices falling 6%.
