👮 Two Men Face 16 Charges in Pyla Torture Case; Court Proceedings Underway
Two men implicated in the Pyla torture case were brought before the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court under high security, facing a total of 16 charges each including kidnapping and grievous bodily harm. The court hearings were fraught with legal maneuvers, with the 48-year-old defendant claiming abusive prosecution and seeking to delay his case until June 4, based on the grounds that he is being tried in two separate cases with the same witness testimony. Meanwhile, the younger 27-year-old defendant contested his ongoing detention, with his hearing scheduled for May 27.
Both defendants are linked to severe offenses such as conspiracy to commit felony, illegal firearm possession, and violations of the anti-torture convention, among others. Six victims have been identified in relation to the case, which include both local and foreign nationals. As the investigation led by the Larnaca CID progresses, authorities are still searching for additional suspects, hinting at a broader criminal network involved in the torture-related incidents recorded during the summer of 2025.
