🪦 Progress in Identifying Missing Persons in Cyprus, CMP Continues Excavations

The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) in Cyprus has made significant progress this year, with two individuals identified from ongoing excavation efforts across multiple sites, revealed Turkish Cypriot member Haki Muftuzade. Currently, active excavations are underway at eight locations including Dali, Lapithos, and parts of Nicosia. This year alone has seen 26 excavations, with two recent identifications boosting total resolves. One notable case was Hussein Mestan, identified and buried earlier this month. The CMP, funded largely by the EU with a budget of €3.9 million this year, continues its work amid challenges, particularly in military-controlled zones where access restrictions persist. Muftuzade urges the public to contribute any information to help expedite the identification process, emphasizing the urgency as ‘time is running out’.
