📰 Cyprus to Elect New Parliament President on June 4 Using Revised System
Cyprus will adopt a new voting procedure for electing the President of the House of Representatives during the first plenary session of the new parliamentary body on June 4, following the May 24 elections. The Deputy Director General of the House, Andreas Christodoulou, explained that the election requires a majority of 29 out of 56 deputies in the first round. If no candidate achieves this, the top two will advance to a second round. In case of a tie, a repeat vote or public draw may be conducted under the session chair's supervision.
Following the election, the Assembly will focus on constituting the Selection Committee, which will determine the composition and chairpersons of the parliamentary committees. This comes after recent adjustments to the parliamentary regulations aimed at modernizing the framework and will be finalized during upcoming committee sessions.
