📰 Limassol residents received handwritten notes and leaflets in unusual advertising campaign for Rockup app
At the beginning of 2026, residents in various neighborhoods of Limassol began finding handwritten notes in their mailboxes, cars, and building entrances, followed by leaflets resembling official government announcements. The surprising outreach turned out to be a creative marketing campaign to introduce Rockup, a new neighborhood messaging app.
The advertising campaign experimented with multiple formats, including digital ads, QR code flyers, personal handwritten notes, and leaflets styled like government communications but clearly marked as promotional. The humorous concept of a fictional “Ministry of Apps” was designed to draw attention and curiosity without requesting any payments or personal data.
The Cyprus Police investigated the campaign and found no illegal activity. Rockup is a registered Cypriot company offering a location-based chat platform where users can communicate with neighbors without sharing phone numbers. Despite initial skepticism, many residents who tried the app praised it as a useful tool for everyday community needs such as lost pets alerts and reporting outages.
