🏗️ Deputy Mayor Criticizes Limassol Coastal Roadworks for Severe Traffic Congestion
Christos Papamichael, Deputy Mayor of Germasogeia, has expressed strong criticism over ongoing works on Limassol’s coastal road, citing severe traffic congestion that disrupts daily commutes. The project, part of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, has caused delays of up to two hours to cover just two kilometers during morning peak hours, affecting both drivers and public transport users, notably the EMEL bus route line 30.
Papamichael highlighted that the roadworks commence at 7:00 AM, coinciding with rush hour, which exacerbates traffic problems. He argued for shifting the work hours to nighttime (9:00 PM to 5:00 AM) as was done on previous projects, to minimize disruption. The Deputy Mayor also raised concerns about the impact on emergency services, whose response times are being affected, and stressed that the economic consequences of lost productivity outweigh any additional costs of night work.
Moreover, he lamented the lack of communication with Public Works officials and criticized the project’s planning and execution as irrational. Papamichael suggested that better coordination and scheduling could alleviate the current issues harming residents’ daily lives and the city’s overall productivity.
