🏗️ President Christodoulides highlights construction sector's role in Cyprus’ sustainable development and housing solutions
President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized the central role of Cyprus' construction sector in transitioning towards sustainable development during a dinner hosted by the Cyprus Association of Building Contractors (Oseok). He underscored the sector’s importance not only for economic activity but also for employment, regional growth, and improving citizens' living environments. Christodoulides highlighted government reforms aimed at modernizing procedures, reducing administrative burdens, and accelerating development licensing, which have already resulted in thousands of residential units being approved within shortened timeframes.
Addressing one of Cyprus' pressing social challenges, the president spoke about the government’s comprehensive housing policy designed to increase affordable housing supply, especially for young people and families. This includes financial incentives, institutional interventions, and reactivation of the Cyprus Land Development Organisation, relying heavily on a strong and competitive construction industry to materialize these plans.
Christodoulides also pointed to ongoing efforts to modernize public services tied to construction and development, stressing the importance of innovative building practices, environmental protection, and maintaining trust and open dialogue between the state and contractors. He expressed confidence that collaboration with Oseok would continue to deliver sustainable growth and improve Cyprus’ infrastructure and quality of life.
