📰 Ancient Cypriot Juglet from 1450BC Repatriated from UK Online Auction
An ancient base-ring juglet dating back to approximately 1450BC was returned to Cyprus after being identified during an online auction in the United Kingdom. The Late Bronze Age pottery vessel was sold on April 6 through Halls Fine Art Auctioneers before Cypriot antiquities officials intervened. Following contact with the auction house and the artefact's owner, the juglet was repatriated and handed over to the Cypriot High Commission in London on June 23.
The Cyprus Antiquities Department expressed gratitude to all parties involved for their cooperation in facilitating the return. This repatriation is part of an ongoing effort to recover Cypriot cultural heritage, with recent returns also including numerous artefacts from Greece, Canada, and the United States. The continuous collaboration aims to safeguard and restore Cyprus's ancient artefacts to their rightful context.
