💰 Cyprus Retail Trade Turnover Value Index Rises 9.8% Year-On-Year in May 2026
Cyprus’ retail trade turnover value index saw a significant year-on-year increase of 9.8 percent in May 2026, according to the latest report from the state statistical service (Cystat). The turnover volume index also rose by 7.5 percent compared to May 2025, reflecting a strong retail performance.
Among the retail categories, automotive fuel recorded the largest annual increase in value at 20.9 percent, followed by other household equipment, including building materials and furniture, which rose by 12 percent. Educational and recreational goods, such as books and sporting equipment, also saw a 10.1 percent value increase. In volume terms, clothing and footwear led growth with a 19.4 percent rise, while information and communication equipment increased by 17.6 percent.
However, some categories experienced declines in volume, including automotive fuel with a 3.8 percent drop and flowers, plants, watches, jewelry, optical goods, and second-hand items which fell by 2.1 percent. For the January to May 2026 period, the retail turnover value index grew by 7.1 percent, with volume up 5.9 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
