👮 Large-scale counter-terrorism exercise held at Limassol port's container terminal

A major counter-terrorism exercise, named "Port Shield 2026," was conducted at the Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol (ECTL) on Wednesday. Organised by Eurogate in collaboration with the Cyprus police and Cyprus Ports Authority, the exercise marked the first time a full-scale operation of this kind utilized real operational resources at Limassol port. The drill aimed to evaluate security measures, test coordination procedures, and enhance cooperation between public and private sector agencies against potential terrorist threats.

The exercise involved a wide range of participants, including police, emergency services, port authority personnel, and terminal staff, who responded to a simulated security incident under realistic conditions. Alexandros Demetriades, COO of Eurogate CTL, said the event successfully highlighted areas for improvement in response times and coordination. He stressed that terminal security remains a top priority and pledged ongoing efforts to bolster risk prevention and maintain the facility's status as one of the safest container terminals in the eastern Mediterranean.
