👮 Cyprus Police Intensify Delivery of 320,000 Unpaid Speed Camera Fines with On-the-Spot Issuance

The Cyprus Police are escalating efforts to deliver approximately 320,000 unpaid speed camera fines to drivers, with some individuals having between five and eight outstanding fines plus penalty points. So far, 13,000 fines have been delivered in the past 20 days through roadblocks, police stations, and soon directly from patrol cars using handheld devices.

The Traffic Police Department highlighted that many registered letters with fines go uncollected as drivers fear their contents, causing backlogs at post offices. Police officers have the authority to withhold driver IDs momentarily to verify outstanding fines during road checks, with refusal to accept fines considered as official notification. Unpaid fines increase over time and may lead to court action and license suspension.

Due to Cyprus's pending entry into the Schengen zone, fine checks will not be performed at airports but transferred to airlines. Authorities urge drivers to use the online platform to check and pay outstanding fines to avoid escalating penalties and potential court referrals.
