David Sinclair, Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, presented groundbreaking research on reversing ageing during UNIC Athens' inaugural Evolve Lecture Series on June 4, 2026. Sinclair proposed that ageing is the root cause of most major diseases and introduced his Information Theory of Ageing, which emphasizes epigenetic changes rather than DNA damage as the primary cause. His lab’s pioneering work using partial epigenetic reprogramming has successfully reversed cell age and restored vision in animal models.

Sinclair revealed that this research has moved to human trials through Life Biosciences, targeting eye diseases such as glaucoma and NAION. The first patient has already been treated, signaling a significant step towards clinical applications. He also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in accelerating the discovery process, enabling much faster screening and experimentation.

At the event, University of Nicosia CEO Antonis Polemitis introduced Sinclair as a leading visionary in the field. The lecture series aims to explore cutting-edge developments in biotechnology and health. The following day, Sinclair was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Nicosia in recognition of his contributions to longevity and healthy lifespan research.
