🔥 Third fire in three days hits Sia and nearby villages in Nicosia district

A combine harvester caught fire in Sia’s Petrokolymbia area shortly after midnight on Thursday, marking the third fire incident in the region within three days. Firefighters managed to control the blaze within half an hour and prevented it from spreading to nearby vegetation.

Earlier in the week, two other fires broke out nearby. On Tuesday, a fire in the Pervolia area near Mathiatis started just after midnight, burning around a hectare of reeds and wild vegetation before being contained by 1:30am. On Wednesday, a fire broke out in Karaves, Sia, at 2:30pm and was extinguished by 3:10pm. This fire destroyed three hectares of pine trees and wild vegetation. The Karaves fire was caused by an oven, and the offender has admitted responsibility and will face prosecution.

The authorities are investigating the causes of the fires, with firefighting teams from the fire brigade and forestry department actively involved in containment efforts. Volunteers also assisted during the Wednesday fire, highlighting community support during these incidents.
