👮 Bronze Sculpture 'Balance' Stolen Hours After Completion from Limassol Park
A newly completed bronze sculpture by renowned Cypriot artist Filippos Giapanis was stolen from the Fasoula sculpture park in Limassol just hours after its final oxidation treatment. The piece, titled "Balance," depicts a woman holding two children and holds significant personal meaning for the artist. Giapanis suspects the theft was targeted for the metal's scrap value, as it was the only bronze sculpture at the park.
Giapanis was not present during the theft and has since offered a €5,000 reward for the sculpture's return. This incident recalls a similar case in 2023 when another bronze sculpture was stolen from Paphos, later recovered in pieces after being sold as scrap metal. Despite the artistic value estimated at €10,000, such artworks are often sold for minimal amounts as scrap, highlighting an ongoing problem with art theft in Cyprus.
