🏗️ Upgrade of Larnaca's Andreas Mouzakis Street delayed until 2031 amid safety and congestion concerns
The long-awaited upgrade of Andreas Mouzakis Street, a crucial road linking Larnaca to the Livadia municipal district, has been postponed until at least 2031, the Department of Town Planning and Housing confirmed. Despite its classification as a primary importance road in the Local Plan with a planned completion by 2026, insufficient infrastructure, including lack of pavements and street lighting, has resulted in daily accidents and severe congestion during peak hours.
Residents have expressed frustration over the ongoing hazards, urging immediate safety enhancements. In response, Larnaca Municipality announced emergency measures such as clear pedestrian markings and new lighting installations to mitigate risks. They also plan to request traffic lights installation near the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium to manage increasing traffic.
While long-term improvements like pavements, cycling lanes, and a green corridor are being planned, actual construction remains years away due to budget constraints and competing priorities. The Town Planning Department cited limited resources for delays, emphasizing their efforts to prioritize various pressing road projects across Larnaca and other municipalities.
