🌍 Turkish Cypriot Ministry Condemns Israel's Recognition of Armenian Genocide as Political Move
The Turkish Cypriot 'foreign ministry' strongly condemned Israel's decision to recognize the 1915 mass displacement and death of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as genocide. They criticized the move as a political smear targeting Turkey and an attempt to divert attention from alleged Israeli crimes against Palestinians.
Israel's legislature passed the recognition unanimously, with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar stating it was a moral obligation to acknowledge historical truth. The decision aligns Israel with 32 other countries recognizing the events as genocide, contrasted by Turkey, Turkish Cypriots, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan, who view the deaths as wartime casualties.
Meanwhile, Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan opted for silence, suggesting that refraining from engaging in the political ramifications suits Armenia's interests. The Turkish Cypriot ministry reiterated its solidarity with Palestinians and condemned Israeli policies as destabilizing the region.
