Sevgul Uludag, a prominent Cypriot journalist and activist known for her investigative work on the fate of missing persons in Cyprus, has passed away at the age of 68. Born in Nicosia in 1958, Uludag began her journalism career in 1980 and became widely recognized for her efforts in uncovering the experiences of families affected by disappearances on both sides of the Cyprus divide.

Uludag's investigations contributed significantly to the discovery of several mass graves, aiding families in their search for lost relatives. She was a regular columnist for the Turkish Cypriot newspaper Yeni Duzen and also contributed to the Greek Cypriot newspaper Politis.

Her impactful work earned her multiple accolades, including the International Women’s Media Foundation’s Courage in Journalism Award in 2008, the European Citizen’s Prize in 2014, and a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019. Besides journalism, she authored books such as The Oysters That Lost Their Pearls and The Orphans of Nationalism, highlighting the human aspects of Cyprus's long-standing conflict.
