A swimmer reported in distress off Zygi in the Larnaca district was successfully rescued early Saturday morning. Authorities launched a search and rescue operation at 05:30 on 28 June 2026, activating the national search and rescue plan "NEARCHOS."
The coordinated response involved fast patrol boats from the Port and Maritime Police, the National Guard's Underwater Demolition Unit, a Police Air Operations Unit helicopter, and an ambulance service team. The swimmer was recovered in good condition by a Port and Maritime Police patrol boat and received medical attention at Zygi fishing shelter.
