🌍 Cyprus to Host Gaza Executive Board Summit as Observer, Not Organizer
Cyprus will host the two-day summit of the Gaza Executive Board on June 30 and July 1, with the government emphasizing its role solely as the venue, not an organizer or participant in discussions. Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos clarified that Cyprus holds only observer status related to Gaza matters, particularly humanitarian aid and reconstruction.
Kombos highlighted that Cyprus has submitted proposals concerning Gaza's humanitarian and reconstruction challenges and will discuss these proposals during bilateral meetings at the summit. Despite delays in financing and project implementation caused by regional conflicts, there is renewed international interest in addressing Gaza’s needs, with financing being a key topic.
Rejecting speculation about Cyprus becoming a full member of the Gaza Board of Peace or a reconstruction hub, Kombos reiterated that the island's involvement remains in line with UN Security Council directives and broader EU consensus. Humanitarian aid shipments, including medical equipment and infant incubators, continue to be sent to Gaza from Cyprus.
