🏗️ New Roundabout in Protaras Boosts Traffic Flow and Safety in Busy Famagusta Area
A new roundabout was inaugurated on Friday at the junction of Protaras-Cape Greco Avenue and Thali Street in the Paralimni-Deryneia area of Famagusta, aiming to improve road safety and traffic flow. Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades emphasized the project's importance in supporting the region's growing tourism sector and easing congestion, especially during peak holiday periods.
The €596,000 project includes upgraded pavements, a cycle lane, pedestrian crossings with signals, enhanced street lighting, and new road signage. The roundabout has already proven effective during the recent Kataklysmos holiday by reducing heavy traffic congestion.
Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos highlighted that although the project was modest in size, it resolved a long-standing traffic issue in Protaras’ center, significantly improving road safety and traffic management. The government's ongoing commitment to upgrading Cyprus' road network aims to enhance daily life and promote economic development in the region.
