👮 Law Office drops criminal prosecution against DISY's Nikos Sykas due to insufficient evidence

The Law Office announced it will not proceed with criminal prosecution against DISY politician Nikos Sykas in a domestic violence case, citing insufficient evidence without the complainant’s testimony. The allegations arose from an incident during a New Year’s holiday in Athens, and although the complainant filed a complaint and later withdrew it, police continued investigating under domestic violence legislation.

Despite witness statements, photographic evidence, and medical reports included in the investigation, the absence of the complainant’s testimony was deemed critical for court proceedings. Sykas has consistently denied the allegations throughout the process. The Supreme Court lifted his parliamentary immunity, and DISY removed him from its election ballot, highlighting its zero-tolerance policy on violence against women.

The investigation remains open for one year, with the state offering ongoing support to the complainant. The Law Office emphasized that no further details will be disclosed to protect the privacy of those involved and maintain the integrity of any future proceedings.
