🔥 Fire in Limassol foothills contained after vehicle blaze spreads to dry grass
A fire that erupted between the villages of Malia and Dora in the Limassol district was brought under control by Wednesday evening after a vehicle ignited surrounding dry vegetation. The blaze began at around 7:21pm when the vehicle caught fire along a roadside stretch in the Limassol foothills, quickly spreading to nearby grass.
Six fire engines responded to the scene with additional support from the forestry department, civil defence, and volunteers. The fire brigade's crisis management centre was activated, with chief officer Nikos Longinos overseeing the operation. Firefighting crews contained the fire shortly after 8:30pm and remained in the area to manage hotspots.
No injuries or damage to homes were reported, though residents expressed concerns about the speed of the initial response, allegations which have not been officially confirmed. Authorities continue to investigate the origin and circumstances of the vehicle fire that led to the blaze.
