🌍 Greece urges strict enforcement of UN Security Council resolutions on Cyprus

Greece has called for the strict implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning Cyprus, emphasizing the importance of upholding decisions made by the council. During a UN Security Council meeting in New York focused on gaps in resolution enforcement, Greece's deputy permanent representative Ioannis Stamatekos highlighted the Cyprus issue as a prime example of unresolved challenges due to non-compliance.

Stamatekos pointed out that resolutions 541 and 550, adopted in 1983 and 1984 respectively, remain key to addressing the conflict, as they demand non-recognition of the separatist entity in northern Cyprus and affirm the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus. He stressed that all member states must respect these resolutions and refrain from recognizing or assisting the illegal entity in any form.
