🏗️ Relocation of Limassol Citizen Service Centre delayed pending building assessment
The relocation of Limassol’s Citizen Service Centre (CSC) from the seafront to a former Cooperative Bank building on Gladstonos Street faces further delays as authorities await the results of a new technical and structural assessment. Seven years after the initial decision and four years since in-principle approval, government departments and the Ministry of Finance are reviewing costs and feasibility, including whether the building should undergo upgrades or be demolished and rebuilt.
Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades confirmed a new study is underway to provide a clearer picture of the expenses involved in maintaining the structure. Meanwhile, the Public Works Department is conducting a repeat seismic screening assessment, necessary every five years. The Ministry of Finance continues to support the relocation, but progress depends on favorable technical findings and budget allocation.
Local concerns remain over increased traffic and parking congestion in the city centre, where significant real estate development is ongoing. The future of the Cooperative Bank building site will be decided based on these technical assessments and planning approvals, which will determine if it can be converted into the new CSC or if alternative uses will be pursued.
