👮 No substantive progress in Thanasis Nicolaou private prosecutions case, adjourned until September 9

The private criminal prosecutions brought by the family of Thanasis Nicolaou made no substantive progress on Thursday, with the case adjourned until September 9 without addressing the core issues. The hearing saw the prosecution submit a revised charge sheet, which the defence challenged as defective. Legal arguments regarding this charge sheet and related costs were requested to be submitted in writing by the court.

The prosecutions involve five former officials, including ex-forensic pathologist Panicos Stavrianos and former Limassol police chiefs Andreas Iatropoulos and Nikos Sofokleous, among others. The case concerns the death of national guardsman Thanasis Nicolaou in 2005, initially ruled a suicide but later investigated as a strangulation, bringing scrutiny to the original police and forensic examinations.
