💰 Eurobank launches first Greece-India cross-border payment via Unified Payments Interface
Eurobank has initiated the first cross-border payment from Greece to India using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), marking a significant step in enhancing economic ties between Europe and India. This milestone was achieved in partnership with NPCI International (NIPL) and was witnessed by key officials, including India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Eurobank CEO Fokion Karavias.
The UPI-enabled service allows Indian citizens residing in Greece to send real-time payments securely to recipients in India through Eurobank’s e-banking platform and mobile app. This launch is part of a broader strategy to integrate established international payment systems and strengthen Eurobank’s position as a financial bridge between the two markets.
Alongside the UPI service, Eurobank has established a representative office in Mumbai, becoming the first Greek and Cypriot bank with a physical presence in India. The bank aims to support businesses expanding between India, Greece, Cyprus, and Europe by providing comprehensive financial and trade services, reinforcing cooperation amid growing economic relations and ongoing EU-India trade agreement negotiations.
