💰 Cyprus reviews progress of €26 million Swiss-funded projects on social cohesion and migration

The Finance Ministry of Cyprus held its fourth annual meeting on July 9, 2026, to review progress on Swiss-funded projects worth more than €26 million. The initiatives fall under the Second Swiss Contribution 2019-2029 and focus on social cohesion and migration, funded through agreements between Cyprus and Switzerland. The meeting was chaired by Penelope Papavasileiou, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Growth, and attended by representatives from both countries.

Cyprus has received CHF 5.2 million (€5.4 million) for projects aimed at reducing economic and social inequalities, including funding for domestic violence prevention, support for rare diseases, and efforts related to missing persons. Additionally, CHF 20 million (€20.8 million) has been allocated to migration measures divided into two phases covering 2019-2026 and 2025-2029, financing projects such as asylum facility development, support for voluntary migrant returns, and accommodation for unaccompanied migrant children.

Steering committee meetings with the Swiss delegation were held to monitor the implementation and progress of these projects, ensuring continued cooperation and effectiveness in addressing economic, social, and migration challenges in Cyprus.
